About

The Enterprise Integration Toolkit Version 7.0 has been developed by the Assistant Deputy Under Secretary of Defense (Logistics Systems Management) to assist Program Managers, Contract Officers, and members of the Integrated Project Team in the development of a component-level architecture and the acquisition and implementation of Commercial-Off-the-Shelf (COTS) Business Systems software.

Component-level Architecture. The Toolkit provides links to the BEA-Log Web site — a repository of architecture products for the Logistics Domain that represent the Logistics portion of the Business Enterprise Architecture (BEA). To achieve the Force-centric Logistics Enterprise vision, the Components must maintain a high degree of integration as they develop individual modernization plans. In part, this integration is managed through compliance with the BEA-Log. As the BEA-Log matures, products will be updated in conjunction with an approved Configuration Management process. At this time, the BEA-Log reflects the perspective of the Office of the Secretary of Defense. As Component Architectures are integrated, the BEA-Log will come to represent the entire Logistics Domain.

COTS Business Systems Acquisition and Implementation. The EI Toolkit is not vendor specific and may be applied across a variety of COTS software package implementations. It contains a Roadmap and a collection of best practice tools adopted from the commercial industry. The EI Toolkit includes more than 100 best practice templates, guides, checklists, and samples, and will continue to be enhanced.

Roadmap Structure. The EI Toolkit provides a three-tiered Roadmap to guide the entire COTS acquisition and implementation life-cycle from problem definition to solution roll-out. The highest level tier defines the phases of a typical COTS business systems project life-cycle. For each high-level phase, a sequence of processes is provided to guide the program's activities. For each process, a detailed step-by-step set of tasks is defined with a link to the best practice tool to assist in completing that specific step.

We appreciate your input for any future enhancements to make the EI Toolkit as effective and comprehensive as possible. Please submit any comments and tools that are examples of best practices to: info@eitoolkit.com.
